Beautiful Iran

When I search thorough youtube for media related to Iran the majority of videos that I find portray Iran negatively. I typed in the word Iran into the search engine, and the videos that showed up on the page were about why America will go to war with Iran and the violent protests that ensued after the 2009 presidential elections. After further looking I stumbled across a video titled Beautiful Iran. I feel it is really important to watch this video because it shows the poorly publicized "lighter-side" of Iran.
Beautiful Iran does a great job at showing the vast geography of the country. It shows everything from Iran's mountains, plains, deserts, and scenic countrysides. The video also briefly shows what daily life is like for Iranians. It shows men working, mostly herding, people going to the markets, and children hanging out and playing outside. There are also pictures of the gorgeous, elaborate architecture that can be found throughout Iran. Finally I love the music in the background. To my "western ears" it sounds almost Spanish because of how the guitar is played. The guy is like the Iranian Santana or something.

  1. Iran should really start a tourism campaign, unless they already have one? But from watching videos that show you the friendliness of the Iranian people, to this that shows some of the natural and man made beauty, I can see the country looks like it has a lot to offer. From what I understand, Iran apparently has a relatively good infrastructure (though I've heard they don't have many hotels). Maybe if they loosened a few of the laws in their country, people would be less hesitant to go there for a vacation. I bet they could make a pretty penny and get a little economy booster. If more people began to go there, maybe word would get out that the country isn't as evil as the media would have us think.

  2. The people and land of Iran are wonderful. My best friend's father is Iranian and immigrated to America in his teens. He is a lovely person who maintains his hertiage dispite living in America and having married an American woman. Yet, whether the world's view of the common people of Iran is influenced to like them more I think it will always be tainted by the actions and words of the leaders of their nation. For example, greek organizations have sterotypes or perceptions surrounding their organization based upon the few main persons who serve as the "face" of the organization. While the majority of the people in the given organization may be nothing like those figure heads the perceptions are hard to shake and the stigma remains as long as those "faces" of the organizations stay around. I would love for the world to be exposed to the "real" Iranian people yet I doubt it will be accomplished.

  3. While I would love to see the perception of Iran change I doubt it will happen. For example greek organizations on campus have individual stigma’s and perceptions surrounding each of them. These arise from the emergence of certain individuals serving as the “face” of the organization. Whether these persons represent the majority or minority of personalities within the organization is irrelevant. The mere fact that they are the “face” of the organization is enough to continue the perception. Thus, I feel as long as members of Iranian government are seen are awful people, the entire country will continued to be viewed in that light. It is the actions and words of the leaders of the nation that will hold Iran back.
